I was up in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan for… reasons and needed to spend the night. Since, during the winter, there is not a lot of stuff open up there, I had to find a place to camp, but first, beer!
I scouted out a dispersed camping area near Lake Michigamme, pulled off and set-up. It was quite cozy up there.
I settled in with a good movie and got comfortable.
I was woken up at around 01:30 by coyotes yipping in the distance. I listened to them for a while before going back to sleep. They were far away and I was pretty high up. If I were in a tent on the ground I would have been considerably more worried. It got down to 34° overnight, which was no problem for my sleeping bag and electric blanket. I previously tested the electric blanket with my Bluetti lithium battery box/invertor. It runs the blanket on low for 6.5 hours. Though the electric blanket shuts off after 3 hours, so if it got cold in the middle of the night, I knew I just needed to push the button again.
In the morning, I was able to break camp in about 30 minutes and get on the road.
I stopped along the northern shore of the UP at one of the dozens of scenic pull-offs and took some pictures. I wish I could have camped here!
Next stop lunch! I stopped at my favorite little place, the St. Ignace Truck Stop Restaurant. It’s a little hole in the wall, but the food is good and inexpensive.
All in all I drove 2300 miles in 77 hours (including stops)
